The Schynige Platte Railway climbs 1420 metres over a distance of 7.255 km, on its journey from Wilderswil up to Schynige Platte, famous as one of the best vantage points in the whole region.
An impressively varied natural landscape unfolds before you on your journey: fertile forests, Alpine pastures and breathtaking views of the beautiful Bernese Oberland with Lakes Thun and Brienz.
The scene has been dominated by the Alpine lowland landscape: mountain pastures, forests and lakes. Then a sudden change of scenery to the almost overwhelming view of the glistening giants of the Bernese Oberland! Directly opposite - the imposing peaks of the Eiger, Mönch & Jungfrau. Have your cameras at the ready as you leave the tunnel (5.6km.)!
The Schynige Platte Railway was opened on 14 June 1893 and electrified in
1914. Many of its carriages and locomotives were first in service on the Wengernalp Railway.
The nostalgic Schynige Platte Railway is an authentic part of the history of Jungfrau Railways .
